Program Description

What is It?

Decision Medicine (DM) is a summer program that introduces students to the field of medicine. It was created by the San Joaquin Medical Society to encourage high achieving, underprivileged and under-represented students, who would not otherwise have these opportunities, to consider a career in medicine and eventually come back to serve our community.

Decision Medicine 2022 will be held between July 11-July 22 with the specific schedule being determined in the following months. While we had hoped to be back to our regular, in person, two-week program, the recent surge in the COVID-19 Omicron variant has made it difficult to predict the circumstances in July. If necessary, we will pivot to a mix of interactive virtual and in person activities at various local hospitals, which can be held safely following COVID-19 protocols. Students will get a glimpse of the day in the life of a physician, including insights into the path to medical school, while learning about the healthcare needs of our community.

Where is It?

As mentioned above, DM 2022 will be determined in following months.  Please check back as schedule will be updated when information is available. All students accepted into the program will receive detailed information and instructions, as well as attend an orientation session prior to the start of the program.
